Wasiliana nasi.

Namba za duka lako ni zako.

Last updated 10 August 2026. Written to be read, not to be survived.

The short version: we hold your shop's records so the software can work. We do not sell them, we do not share them, and we do not look at them unless you ask us to fix something. You can take everything with you at any time, including if you leave.

What we hold

Two kinds of information.

Your business records

  • Your items, what you paid for them and what you sell them for
  • Your sales, stock movements, counts and adjustments
  • Your expenses and daily cash reconciliations
  • Kumbukumbu ya kila mabadiliko, na jina la aliyeyafanya na lini

Information about people

  • The names and phone numbers of you and your staff, so each person can sign in and be identified against their own work
  • A secured version of each person's PIN — we cannot read it, and neither can anybody else
  • Customer names, only where you choose to record them against a sale

We do not collect anything about your customers that you have not entered yourself, and we do not track people across other websites.

Why we hold it

To run the service you are paying for, and for nothing else. Specifically: to show you your stock and profit, to attribute actions to the person who took them, to send you the alerts you asked for, to keep backups so your records survive, and to answer you when you contact us for help.

We do not use your data to train anything, to build a product for somebody else, or to sell you anything beyond Saliyo.

Who can see it

  • You, and whoever you give a login to — limited to what that person's role allows. Your cashiers cannot see your buying prices or profit.
  • Us, technically, because we run the system. We access a customer's data only to fix a problem, and normally only after you have asked us to. Every such access is logged.
  • Nobody else. We do not sell data, we do not share it with other businesses, and we do not hand it to anybody unless a court with jurisdiction over us orders it — in which case we will tell you unless we are legally forbidden from doing so.

The assistant on this website

If you use the Ask Saliyo AI box on this site, the question you type is sent to DeepSeek — or to Google, if DeepSeek cannot answer — together with the text of these public pages. They run the model that writes the answer; we do not. We keep nothing. Your question is not stored, not logged and not attached to you — we count how many questions were asked in a day and nothing else. It has no access to any shop's data, and nothing you type there reaches a Saliyo account.

It is software, not a person, and it can be wrong. Anything that matters — a price, a promise, what happens to your data — is on this site or in the manual, and those are what count.

Where it lives

On managed servers operated by reputable hosting providers, encrypted in transit and at rest. Backups are taken daily, encrypted, and stored separately from the live database.

Some of these servers are outside East Africa. We handle personal data in line with the Uganda Data Protection and Privacy Act 2019 and, for Rwandan customers, Law N° 058/2021 relating to the protection of personal data and privacy. Saliyo now serves shops in Kenya, Tanzania, South Sudan and Burundi as well; if your country's data protection law places further duties on us, tell us and we will meet them.

How long we keep it

  • While you are a customer — everything, so your history stays useful.
  • After you leave — we keep your data for 90 days so you can still ask for an export or change your mind, then delete it.
  • Audit records may be held longer where you or your accountant need them, and where the law requires it.

Your rights

  • Get it all. Ask any time and we will send you your complete records in a file you can open. No charge, no notice period, and this applies after you have stopped paying.
  • Correct it. Anything wrong, tell us and we will fix it.
  • Delete it. Ask us to erase your data and we will, subject to any record we are legally obliged to keep.
  • Complain. To us first — we would rather hear it. Then to the Personal Data Protection Office in Uganda, or the National Cyber Security Authority in Rwanda.

Cookies

This website uses no advertising cookies and no third-party trackers. The application itself sets one cookie to keep you signed in. That is all it does, and it disappears when you sign out.

Changes

If we change anything that materially affects you, we will tell you directly — not by quietly updating this page. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
